Triphenyltetrazolium chloride

Triphenyltetrazolium chloride (TTC)

A 2% solution of TTC in water is mixed with an equal part 1M sodium hydroxide just prior to use The reaction is best performed in the dark at room temperature or somewhat above. After development excess reagent can be removed by rinsing.
Reducing compounds give red spots against a white background.
